University of Phoenix College of Social Sciences offers undergraduate and graduate programs in psychology, human services and counseling designed to help students acquire a deeper understanding of human behavior and prepare them to become social heroes in their communities. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, social science careers are expected to grow up to 29 percent between 2012 and 2022. The College of Social Sciences prepares for these opportunities with a combination of firsthand knowledge and career-relevant coursework. Our curriculum is developed based on industry standards to ensure the coursework aligns with employer needs. We work directly with the American Counseling Association (ACA), National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and National Organization for Human Services (NOHS) to ensure that our programs fill skills gaps in social science professions.

Responsibilities

  1. As a faculty member you’ll be challenged with adding your professional expertise to instruct a curriculum which is centrally developed with specific learning objectives.

  2. Provide timely and detailed feedback on a weekly basis and offer student support via classroom, phone, and email.

  3. Utilize classroom learning system technology (provided by university), the Internet, and Microsoft Office software.

  4. Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.

Work is generally performed in a classroom environment in which there is only minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to sit or stand throughout a 4-hour class period. Must be able to use a telephone and be able to perform work at a computer terminal. While performing the duties of this job, incumbent is regularly required to move throughout the classroom and/or campus, communicate with others, and detect or exchange information or ideas. The incumbent may be required to perform functions which require the manual operation of general office productivity equipment. Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

MUST meet one of the numbered pathways below, as well as any applicable clarifications stated, (including education, area of study and previous work experience, including minimum number of years and types of experience):

(1) Doctorate degree in Counseling Education and a minimum of (3) years of applicable professional experience, some of which must have been within the last (7) years.

(2) Doctorate in a related field and 18 graduate credits in in counseling and a minimum of (3) years of applicable professional experience, some of which must have been within the last (7) years. Must have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of 1 full academic year before July 1, 2013.

Doctoral Clarification: Applicable professional experience can be derived from any combination of: (a) Post-secondary teaching of clinical assessment courses, (b) Practitioner counseling experience in a clinical setting, (c) Substantive documented research or scholarship experience in counseling current within the last 5 years.

REQUIRED CREDENTIAL:

Current clinical licensing or certification in Counseling, School Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work or Medicine.

If the faculty member/candidate has a Doctorate in Counselor Education, a current National Certified Counselor (NCC) certification or other national certification (e.g., National Certified Counselor (NCC), Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC), Master Addictions Counselor (MAC), Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), Distance Credentialed Counselor (DCC), or other national certification) is acceptable.

ADDITIONAL CLARIFICATIONS:

Degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution.

Acceptable professional positions/professional responsibilities can include but are not limited to: Documented counseling practice, demonstrate experience or familiarity with the Code of Ethics, the licensing and credentialing process in the counseling profession, and/or demonstrate experience with the various legal and ethical concerns around the assessment and treatment of individuals, couples, families, groups, and cultures; and malpractice, unprofessional practice, and the duty to protect.

Core counselor education program faculty have earned doctoral degrees in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program, or have related doctoral degrees and have been employed as full-time faculty members in a counselor education program for a minimum of 1 full academic year before July 1, 2013. To be a core faculty member here, one cannot be a core faculty member at another university.
