Opportunity Details


The Office of Experience Design is tasked with defining the opportunities for improving the University experience, through enhancements in designs, processes, systems or a touchpoints. Primary activities revolve around researching and documenting the current state, framing the opportunity for improvement and then working on ways in which to visualize and model those concepts into an attainable future state.

The idea candidate will have experience managing, facilitating and leading intuitive, engaging and measurable experience design. As a lead for internal teams as well as an advocate for student’s needs this role maintains a good understanding of student-centered design, operational process design and overall student and institutional research.

Experience facilitating strategic initiatives to help guide new and improved processes, interactions and optimizations that result in achieving business goals is strongly preferred.


  • Supports the design process from conception to deployment by facilitating journey mapping sessions, building cross functional teams, documenting requirements, designing constraints, identifying deliverables, coordinating deadlines, and maintaining on-time, on-budget and quality deliverables.

  • Works with user researchers to conduct user research, in order to understand user needs, validate product direction, and fine-tune design, as well as performs market and competitive research

  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams on tasks from design, product management, development and business to ensure successful development of a holistic solution that benefits our users - students, faculty, and educational staff

  • Employs appropriate change management, process reengineering and communication strategies / techniques to guarantee a successful transition

  • Develops and documents interaction models, processes and conceptual frameworks of experience design

  • Reviews data and trends to gain insights into opportunities for experience optimizations and improvements

  • Researches technology trends as they pertain to the experience design for students and the University

  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, technology or related field required.

  • Three years of user experience design including wireframes, prototyping and user flows.

  • Three years of user experience design experience for software, Web applications, consumer electronics and/or mobile devices.

  • Two years of experience in defining and prototyping end-to-end user experience, including user workflows, layouts, design of specific UX screens and components.

  • Two years of experience in developing customer/user centered design strategies.

  • Two years of experience in designing interactive, high trafficked web and mobile sites and applications.

  • Two years of experience in user research methodologies.

  • Demonstrated extensive experience with user interface design patterns and standard User Centered Design methodologies across multiple platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Strong understanding of common software project management and development practices.

  • Understanding of University Operations, Experience Design and Organizational Behavior preferred.

  • Ability to multi task and work within a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and communicate complex problems and solutions.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including demonstration of strong facilitation skills.

  • Ability to apply thoughtfulness, diplomacy and ease when communicating with others.

  • Ability to work well in a team but also be able to manage projects autonomously.

  • Ability to work collaboratively, navigating a highly matrixed environment and managing organizational change.
